The academic credit bank system,an open higher education system, accepts as credit various learning experiences and qualifications acquired both in and outside of the school system by learners with a high school diploma or equivalent, and presents these learners with an associate's degree or a bachelor's degree.

How the academic credit bank system works

Learner registration Register as a learner in the academic credit bank system to have credits granted and to receive a degree.
Application for credits and
acknowledgement
It is possible to apply for credits and have learning acquired from various other sources be accepted as credits.
Degree awarding A bachelor's degree or an associate's degree can only be acquired when more than 140 credits and 80 credits (120 credits for 3-year colleges) in major and general education courses, respectively, are acknowledged.

Credits in the academic credit bank system can be acquired by

taking learning subjects that have received accreditation, taking subjects at accredited schools, taking part-time classes, acquiring qualifications, passing the bachelor's degree examination for self-education or taking a test exemption course, and possessing an important intangible cultural heritage or taking a transmission education course.

Subjects that have received accreditation at lifelong education centers attached to universities, private academies, vocational schools and other lifelong education facilities
Subjects at
credit-acknowledged schools
Credits earned by university dropouts or vocational college dropouts and dropouts from various academic career-acknowledged schools at their former schools
Part-time registered subjects Taking subjects implemented based on the policies of each university through their part-time registration system (includes vocational colleges & cyber universities)
Acquisition of qualifications Acquisition of qualifications (national technical qualifications, national qualifications backed by law and some certified private qualifications) as specified by the president of the National Institute for Lifelong Education (NILE)
Passing the bachelor's degree examination for self-education or taking test exemption courses Passing the bachelor's degree examination for self-education by stage, or taking the exemption course
Possessing an important
intangible cultural heritage or
taking transmission
education courses
Having important intangible cultural heritage skills or talents, in accordance with the Protection of Cultural Properties Act, and inheritors that have undergone transmission education
